Climbing out of the
box
We have some new kittens at
our house! They are now six weeks old and I have watched them grow almost every
day. Last week they learned how to climb out of the cardboard box we kept them
in. That is, all but one of the kittens. As the others jumped out of the box
day after day, this one little kitten tried and tried to get out of the box but
couldn't. Sometimes I helped him out but at times I found myself speaking words
of encouragement to the little guy. "Keep trying" I would say,
"You can do it!" Sure enough, the day came when he indeed did get out
of the box all by himself.
Isn't that just like us
at times? How often have we boxed ourselves in? How often would we
like to "think outside the box" but can't seem to do so? The truth
is, we can get outside of our box, outside of the
traditional way of doing things. That is, if we don't quite trying!
Some people I have known have "lived in a box" emotionally because they have been hurt and are not willing to take the chance to get out of the comforts of "the box." But once you are no longer "boxed in" you can be an encouragement to those still stuck in their box. You will find yourself telling them, "keep trying, you can do it." Do you have a box of your own of some sort? Today, is a good day to try one more time to get out of your box! "YOU CAN DO IT!"
