They had the promises of God

                Of success   1:8

                Of security    1:15

They had seen the power of God

                Crossing the Jordan River   ch. 3

                Capturing Jericho               ch. 6

They had witnessed the presence of God

                His word       1:1; 3:7; 4:1; 5:2,14,15; 6:2

                His wonder   6:20

They had enjoyed the provision  of God

                The manna                           5:12a

                The meals of fruit and corn  5:12b

 

Now the people of God were:

(1)Defeated 7:5   (2)Discouraged 7:5b, 7:6    (3)Dismayed 7:7

 

How do you respond?

Do you act on impulse?

Do you allow yourself to become imprisoned?

Do you articulate your inability?

 

Joshua did three things

He took Immediate   action. 7:6

He took Inventory. 7:7a

He began to Intercede. 7:9

      He asked God what went wrong.

      God answered him.

 

The accursed thing: two meanings

That which is doomed for destruction.  6:17

That which is devoted for divine purpose. 6:19

 

Joshua 6:26                          

 

Proverbs 3:9,10 says “honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase, so your barns may be filled with plenty, and your presses shall burst out with new wine”

God wants first place Matthew 6:33, of our day Mark 1:35, of our week Matthew 28:1;  1 Corinthians 16:3, of our increase. Proverbs 3: 9,10

l.THE COMMAND OF THE LORD 6: 17-21

A. Devote the city to God   6:17a       (Deuteronomy 20:14; 13:16)

B. Deliver Rahab 6:17b

C. Destroy all the inhabitants  6:21

 

ll. THE CONSECRATION TO THE LORD  6:19

A. The tithe to God

B. The treasury of the Lord

 

IlI. THE CURSE FROM THE LORD 6:18      (John 6:9)

A. Defeat before their enemies 7:5

B. Discouragement among the elders 7:6

B. Eventually was found out  7:19

C. There is forgiveness

HOW CAN I APPLY THIS MESSAGE TO MY LIFE?
