Mother’s Day Message

 

Text: 2 Kings 8- 11ff

Title: A Great Woman

 

“A great woman” - The KJV, The American Standard Bible, and Young’s Bible

“A distinguished woman” – Webster’s Bible

“A noble woman” – NKJV  “an affluent woman”

“A prominent woman”  The Living Bible

“A wealthy woman” – The Revised Standard Bible

“A well to do woman” – NIV

 

Apostle Peter’s description of womanhood.

 

1 Peter 3:1- 5

 

A. He gives an exhortation concerning a woman’s behavior (3:1, 2)

B. He gives an exhortation concerning a woman’s beauty (3:3- 5)

1 Samuel 16:7

 

 

This woman as a great woman because:

 

 

l. HER PERCEPTION OF SPIRITUAL THINGS (2 Kings 4:8, 9)

 

Vs. 9 “I perceive”

 

Revelation 2: 7, 11, 17, 29; 3:6, 13, 22

 

 

 

 

 

ll. HER PROVISION FOR THE SERVANT OF GOD.  (2 Kings 4: 10, 11)

 

A. She consulted her husband. Vs 10

 

B. They constructed a chamber. Vs.10

 

1. It was on the wall of their home.

 

     a. Located so Elisha could have access.

 

      b. Close enough so they could be accommodating.

2. He was welcomed. Vs. 11

 

     a. They waited for him to come by.

 

      b. They watched for him to come.

               

lll. THERE WAS THE PROMISE OF BLESSING FOR A SON. (2 Kings 4: 11- 17)

lV. SHE HAD A PROBLEM WITH HER SON. (2 Kings 4:18 – 20)

 

A. The problem was the result of a fall. Vs. 18

 

B. He fell on his way to his father. Vs. 18

 

C. His mother was faithful to her son until the very end. Vs. 20

 

D. She maintained her faith. Vs. 22

 

E. She fought for her son. Vss. 22 – 24

 

1. She sent someone for help. Vs. 22

 

2. She saddled a donkey and went herself. Vs. 24

 

3. She would not slack off. Vs. 24

 

F. She found God’s favor.  Vss. 32 – 35

 

1. The servant of God came. Vs. 32

 

2. Supplication was made. Vs. 33

    

     a. He stretched himself out for the child.

    

      b. The child sneezed.

 

3. The spirit of the boy returned to him. Vs. 35

 

V. SHE HAD A PROCLAIMATION OF FAITH. (2 Kings 4: 21- 30)
