Ash Wednesday – Marks
the beginning of lent. So called Ash Wednesday because of the
ceremony of putting ashes on one’s forehead as a sign of penitence.

to Easter eve recalling our Lord’s forty days in the wilderness. It is usually
accompanied with fasting of some sort and with penitence.
