Session 1 - 12 week Class Descriptions
Parents - There might be a class fee applied to classes that require the teacher to
purchase paper and for usage of the copy machine.Tall Oaks will not(can not) be paying for that this year.
Period 1
Study Hall - Will be an available room for quiet study all 3 periods. There will not however
be a supervise. Any child not studying quietly will be asked to go back to their parent.
Pre - K – This will be basically a time of babysitting, unless someone wants to offer
something other than coloring, outdoor play etc...
K – Five in a Row-Teacher- Amy Gibson
Year-long class.We
will be studying several classical books and pulling from it different skills. Your child will walk away learning
what makes a good book and a deeper affection for them as well!
1 & 2nd Grade – Ancient Egypt-Teacher - Denise T.
We will learn about
history through a hands-on approach. Lots of crafty projects. We will make paper, mummify Barbie dolls, make a cartouche,
a sugar cube pyramid and more. Some homework. Fee TBA. Class limit of 8.
3rd - 5th Grade – Science / Chemistry- Teacher - Rebecca Smith
For the serious student
only/ Homework required.
We will be working from the book, Christian Kids Explore Chemistry along with
additional good material. I feel it will be important for your child to keep up with the class and to do their
homework, even if it is just to review and reinforce what they have learned in class. They will be given a notebook for the
year with an outline of what is to be expected for the year. Please have your child bring in the recommended supplies each
week.( a list will be sent home as well as an email this summer). Awesome experiments for your young chemist!!!
Class fee -$5.00 per student for session 1.This will be an all year class, but you have
the option of joining for 12 weeks, or the 24.
6 -8th Grade - How
to Write a Research Paper - Teacher - Cheri Hoffman
By the end of the year, students will have a completed research project. Along the way,
we will cover topic selection, organization, outlining, note taking, bibliographies, research techniques, graphics for presentation
and writing techniques. There will be about an hour on homework each week. Year-long class. Limit of 8.

An array of skills will
be used from critical thinking to projects and vocabulary.
3rd & 4th Grade - History -Teacher - Lara Largent
This hands-on history class will use Story of the World - Early Modern History Volume 3. A Year-long class.
6 th - 8th Grade - Early Modern History - Teacher - Michelle Freeman
This is a 2
period class
The time period covers 1600-1850. We will be using Story of the World - Volume 3. By the end of the year, we will have a history notebook filled with narratives,
maps, coloring pages, recipes and projects. We will also do a unit study on Queen Anne’s County. Class fee ($30
for the year) will be to cover project supplies and activity book. Class limit of 12.
